Primary schools

Primary schools is the most basic level of formal education in Indonesia. The elementary school is within 6 years, ranging from grade 1 to grade 6. Elementary school graduates can continue their education to secondary school (or equivalent).

Elementary school students are generally aged 7-12 years. In Indonesia, every citizen aged 7-15 years of compulsory primary education followed, namely primary school (or equivalent) 6 years and junior high school (or equivalent) 3 years.

Primary schools run by government or private. Since implementation of regional autonomy in 2001, the management of public primary schools (SDN) in Indonesia that were previously under the Ministry of National Education, is now the responsibility of the Local Government District. While the Ministry of National Education is only a role as regulator in the field of national education standards. Structurally, the public primary schools is a technical implementation unit of education service districts.

State primary schools in Indonesia generally use red and white uniform for the day weekday, brown uniforms for scout / day given, and in certain schools to use a white uniform and white for the flag ceremony.
Flag ceremony held each Monday morning before starting lessons.
